That's my horse Ibis and I trotting along together down the road.
He was 34 at the time. He came to me when he was 5 years old,
I come out as a lesbian in 1987 when I was 27.
Throughout our 32 years together he walked with me through many life changes, including coming out.
We learned together for 3 decades before he passed away at age 37.
As many animals do, he taught me so much about securely connecting,
trust, clear communication, letting go gracefully, and moving through deep grief.
He saw me through many relationships, the good, the difficult, break-ups, deep healing through those transitions.
As I learned about facing deep trauma and parts work for instance, he showed me the effects of deeply centering, grounding, connecting and what is possible with him, so that I could also learn to trust, feel safe, grow strong, more resilient and develop confidence in relationships with people as well as with animals.
Animals know and show unconditional love so much more easily than many people. We have much to learn.
While I have had extensive training in many areas to be of service, and for my own healing, animals are incredible guides. I was certainly much better off learning in partnership with my horses, cats and dogs than if I had not had any animals around at all. I know what that is like as I did not grow up with any animals in our house! Much less fun!
Animals show us what is possible with the depths of love we are capable of experiencing.
They help us know the best version of ourselves
We can grow, change and transform,
deeply healing.
